Majestic and magnificent are words that come to mind upon viewing the offered movie poster. This vintage relic of filmdom is a rare edition from the 1938 western feature “Rawhide” starring baseball immortal Lou Gehrig. The “Iron Horse” rode west to portray himself as baseball player ready to hang it up and pursue the life of gentleman cattle rancher. Of course the obligatory bad guys show up and what else could happen….Gehrig fights them off by hurling billiard balls at them, ouch!!!
Framed in sleek black metal to wall-hogging proportions of 38x76, this riveting poster is a collage of western action with multiple scenes from the film juxtaposed on one complete sheet listing “Lou Gehrig” with second billing among the credits at bottom. Light to moderate wear is evident along the original factory compacting fold lines as is expected in a poster of this vintage. Additionally there is some modest creasing and rippling radiating from a few of the folds, but generally this towering treasure is a visual delight with a serviceable frame.
Also present is a 7/18/38 theater program (EX) from the Macon Theatre of Franklin, NC. This four-page flyer touts the weeks coming fare, including the Rawhide film on the back page featuring a photo of Gehrig.
