Working his fifth of a record eight World Series events in 1939, Hall of Fame arbiter Bill McGowan autographed this OAL Harridge baseball. The creamy sphere features legible stampings, some of which are prominent, and presents at the ("7") level (though period shellac applied to the signatures warrants only a slightly lesser technical assessment). On the side of the sweet spot, McGowan's black fountain pen signature resonates ("5") quality and is accompanied by his inscription of "World Series 1939" on the south panel. McGowan also personalized the keepsake to an unknown recipient. The ball is also home to (8) clubhouse signatures that are also penned in McGowan's hand as it was common practice during that era to have umpires or other personnel sign the names of many players.
