John "Little Napoleon" McGraw was a longtime player, notably for the Baltimore Orioles (1891-1899) who later racked up 2,763 wins as a manager, a National League record. McGraw (d.1934) is the subject of this 1899 handwritten note (with a horizontal crease from folding) concluded by a ("9-10") potency black steel-tip fountain penning from the Hall of Fame manager. The note reads: Dear Friend, The shock of my dear wifes death has presented my appreciation of your sympathy and beautiful flowers received. The lovely basket received during her illness was shown to her and she was so pleased with them she asked to see it a second time. I am very sincerely, John J. McGraw. The note is dated "October Twenty Fourth Ninety Nine". Full photo LOA from JSA. This item has a reserve (estimated value: $3500-$6000).
