Bust out the bids for this captivating “Babe” Ruth figure collection. The larger than life Ruth has been reduced to shelf size with fantastic results in this lot of (3) vintage pieces.
There’s no denying the mesmerizing appeal of the built-up and painted 1965 Aurora model 9x7x7 diorama. Marketed under the “Great Moments in Sport” series, this model kit #862 is strikingly painted and mounted to a stadium vignette scene recreating the Babe’s record-setting 60th homer of the 1927 season. In addition to Ruth, this handsome piece also features umpire and catcher figures, with all three presenting as clean and fresh. The accompanying original factory box is solid and glossy with bold graphics and light soiling and includes the original instructions brochure and a pair of advertisements for “Model Motoring” and “Sport Magazine”.
Equally as appealing is an original 1958-1962 Hartland Plastics statue of Ruth with bat, posed to recall his “called shot” in the 1932 World Series at Wrigley Stadium. This highly desirable piece stands freely and takes the field in remarkable (NM+) condition.
No stopping now as we head into home with a cast iron door stop. This imposing batting-pose figure measures 5-1/2” across the base by 9” high and even at this height the mighty “Babe” appears menacing with a determined look on his face and his war club wrapped behind his head after mashing another dinger. Moderate paint wear serves to enhance the authentic nature of this vintage collectible which remains solid, serviceable and appealing with attractive colors and recognizable features.
