Show some love for this antique loving cup trophy. Actually more of an urn, this three-handled metal cup is of considerable size, measuring 9” tall, with a diameter of 6-1/2” at the opening, making for exciting display. This ancient presentation piece is ornately decorated with scrolled feet, handles and rim, with both raised and impressed elements. Fashioned in substantial metal, this impressive trophy weighs nearly four pounds and remains very appealing despite several small wear holes in the lower region. These small holes are not readily apparent when viewing the outer surface, but are easily detected when looking inside the opening. In any case, they have minimal impact of the visual beauty of this stunning and lustrous award.
Engraved on the forward section between two of the handles is the inscription “Won By The Hot Air Ships Base Ball Club, John J. Shine Captain, At The Outing Of The James E. Carroll Association, Sunday Aug. 18-07, Hot Air Ships-21, Mulligan Assn-4”. While information on the participants in nonexistent, undoubtedly they were club teams that played for the love of the game.
