Best known for his 1935 MVP exploits and his famed "Homer in the Gloamin'" to help clinch the N.L. flag some three seasons later, Hall of Famer Gabby Hartnett (d.1972) also broke Ray Schalk's record of 1,727 games as a catcher—and was Carl Hubbell's All-Star batterymate when the latter player fanned five Hall of Famers in succession. Hartnett has endorsed this July 17, 1936 scorecard in pencil ("9-10"). The collectible presents in VG-EX condition with light to moderate creasing and is blank except for the autograph and a "July 17" notation. On that day, the Boston Bees beat the Cubs 5-1 behind a pivotal three-run homer by Wally Berger in the fifth inning. Hartnett acutally did not play that day as Ken O'Dea was behind the plate.
