The sweet smell of success surrounds this collection featuring Super Bowl champions the Chicago Bears. Considered one the greatest teams in NFL history, the 1985 Bears were noted for their all-out attack “46 defense”, which served them well in their 46-10 SB win over the Patriots. Recall this memorable squad with this 1985 McDonald’s collection, consisting of a complete set of (32) football cards, a store display sign and an additional card signed by HOF running back Walter Payton.
The Payton autograph shows (“9”) quality, applied sharply by ballpoint pen across the center of the game action photo card (EX-MT) and comes with a PSA/DNA basic cert/sticker.
Measuring 21-3/4 x 21-3/4”, the restaurant sign is broadly appealing with dynamic graphics centered by an art image of a scowling Bears player holding a group of the giveaway cards. Two hairline cracks/tears on the player’s shoulder and just above the Coca-Cola endorsement at lower right are repaired on the reverse side with clear tape. Additionally a small triangle of surface loss occurs at the lower left corner. These condition notes are fairly unobtrusive with minimal impact on the sign’s display worthiness.
The (32) cards average (EX to NM) entirely due to varying degrees of corner wear and are otherwise very attractive and bright. Included are head coach Mike Ditka, defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan who was the architect of the “46 defense” and star players Walter Payton, Jim McMahon, Mike Singletary, Richard Dent, Dan Hampton and William “The Refrigerator” Perry.
